The 1987 comedy Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is getting a remake, starring Will Smith and Kevin Hart in the major roles.
The pair will feature in a reworking of the iconic movie for Paramount Pictures, which will be produced by Hart’s Hartbeat Productions and Smith’s Westbrook Studios, according to Deadline. The script will be written by Aeysha Carr, whose TV credits include Woke, an upcoming series on Hulu, and Brooklyn 99.
In the original film, Steve Martin and the late John Candy played two eccentric individuals who go on a three-day journey filled with mishaps and adventures in an attempt to make it home to Chicago for Thanksgiving. John Hughes directed the movie.
According to Variety, the new movie will be a contemporary retelling of the original, with Smith, 51, and Hart, 41, playing characters who must work together to overcome hurdles on their journey home to their loved ones.
