Will Smith gave his ‘King Richard’ cast a cash bonus: ‘They need it more than I do’

On the King Richard set of his new movie, Will Smith was feeling giving.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to announce that the actor and producer gave financial bonuses to his co-stars in the critically acclaimed drаmа.

According to THR, the Oscar contender reportedly received payment for the movie totaling up to $40 million, and he personally cut checks to his co-stars, which included Tony Goldwyn, Jon Bernthal, Aunjanue Ellis, and Saniyya Sidney, who play his children.

Smith presented the gifts following Warner Bros.’ decision to reschedule the film’s November 19 theatrical and streaming premieres to occur concurrently, the site stated. Smith’s incentive was in addition to what the actors had previously gotten from Warner Bros. as payment for the HBO Max release plan, a source informed THR.

In the film, Smith plays Richard Williams, the father of tennis players Venus and Serena, and serves as producer.

Smith’s motion was later verified by Goldwyn, who told Access Hollywood, “I’ve been doing this for over 30 years.” Will is the most giving person I have ever worked with. It’s true what you said—that he provided gifts and bonuses to every talent. As many of you are aware, there was much controversy around Warner Brothers’ decision to release the film only on streaming services rather than in theatres. Will recently called us to promise to put things right. I was blown away since I had never experienced it. It was simply unbelievable to me.”On the King Richard set of his new movie, Will Smith was feeling giving.
