Lil Wayne is more than willing and prepared to take center stage during the Suρer Bowl halftime show in 2025, when it takes place in his native New Orleans.
In a recent interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report, the Grammy-winning rapper talked candidly about his hopes for a halftime show and expressed his excitement about performing at Caesars Suρerdome for Suρer Bowl LIX in February of next year.
“At whatever age I was, I would break into that office and get that Billboard magazine, and I wаnted that just as much as I wаnted to see my nаme at the top of that list,” he remarked.
Although Wayne, 41, admitted that the performance “has nothing to do with the sport” of football, he still considered it to be a tremendous accomplishment and one he would love to repeat in his home city.
“I can guarantee that there be a trillion or more people at the Louisiana Fest when I perform. It’s also incredible to see so many people in front of my city. So to hear that there will be a Suρer Bowl?,” he said. “Experiencing the Suρer Bowl halftime show beforehand and thinking that the performer may have performed the song on which I was featured. Everyone has me on their song. I could’ve been brought out by you!
It is unlikely that the rapper will invite any special guests with him when he eventually steps onto the huge platform.
He stated, “Please know that’s my moment and don’t feel disrespected if you are an artist from New Orleans or an artist connected to me in any way in the music [industry].” “I deserved that particular moment. I’m not bringing anyone, thus. I am performing all of the hooks that you composed and wrote. I apologize; I’m singing Bobby Valentino’s songs to all of you. I truly apologize.
Every rule has an exception, of course, and Wayne mentioned he may consider introducing Beyoncé or another “New Orleans jazz great.”
In response, he stated, “Of course, if I have a song with Beyoncé or something at the time.” It is illogical to not do so. Apart from that, perhaps Tay Tay [Swift] could make it. Tay Tay might succeed. But no, we won’t be doing that if the Chiefs are truly playing in it.
Wayne saw the opportunity to perform in his home city as a means of showcasing the unique qualities of the Big Easy to a global audience.
“It’s a showcase, and it’s something that tourists take back with them, because there are so many people there who are not from the city,” he said. “And I think I’m a part of the showcase in New Orleans.”
For the first time since 2013, when Beyoncé performed during the halftime show, Suρer Bowl LIX will take place in New Orleans.
This year’s halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is scheduled to feature Usher as the main act on February 11.
