Their children grew up in West Philadelphia.

Will and his siblings were middle-class West Philadelphians in the 1960s and 1970s.

Will spoke out about being shouted racist slurs “on more than 10 occasions” by Philly police as a child during the 2020 Black Lives Matter campaign.

I know what it’s like to feel occupied by the police. On the podcast On One with Angela Rye, he called it an occupier.

The I Am Legend star said he was “frequently” stopped by police and had different police encounters than his White classmates. “White kids were happy when the cops showed up and my heart always started pounding,” said he.

Their other children are Pamela, Harry, and Ellen.

Their four children are two sons and two daughters. Pamela was born in 1964, and Will, named after his father, was born in 1968. They had twins Harry and Ellen in 1971.

Will and his younger brother are close. Harry was Will’s accountant before joining Overbrook Entertainment, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s producing firm. The brothers also did real estate.

Harry has a daughter, Sydney, with Melissa Montoya and a son, Langston, with MTV’s Total Request Live’s Ananda Lewis. Harry is Smith Global Media’s CEO.

Ellen founded and runs Dining with Divas, a nonprofit that arranges holiday dinners for needy mothers and families. PhillyChitChat reports that Ellen is a qualified cosmetology instructor and single mother of two.

Pamela Smith, the oldest Smith, owns Pash Boutique.

Willard ran a refrigeration business.

His son said Willard was “always hustling.” Willard founded his refrigeration company after being repeatedly denied promotions at his steel factory owing to his race, despite his hard work and superior talents.

Will writes in his essay that electrical technicians joined the operation. PEOPLE said that his father “was able to keep four kids fed and clothed and still managed to find time to spend with us” despite his busy schedule.
