Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah reunite on screen in ‘The Equalizer’ for upcoming Oscar nominations

Jada Pinkett Smith, who costarred in Girls Trip and Set It Off with Queen Latifah, posted on Instagram, saying, “@queenlatifah and I are at it again.” Pinkett Smith will be appearing on The Equalizer with Queen Latifah, with whom she costarred in Girls Trip.

According to Deadline, the 50-year-old presenter of Red Table Talk is preparing for a cameo appearance on the CBS sitcom. Pinkett Smith will play Jessie Cook, a cunning burglar with a photographic memory. Given that Cook was a former CIA employee, he and Latifah’s character, Robin McCall, have quite different personalities and backgrounds.

On Tuesday, Pinkett Smith shared a screenshot of the casting news on her Instagram Story, expressing her excitement, “@queenlatifah and I are at it again.”

After starring together in movies like Set It Off from 1996 and Girls Trip, which came out in 2017, this is the most recent on-screen appearance Smith and Latifah will have together, but it won’t be the last.

Earlier this month, producer Will Packer revealed plans for a Girls Trip sequel. Alongside Smith and Latifah, Tiffany Haddish and Regina Hall starred in the original.

Packer said to Michael Strahan during their discussion of the forthcoming Oscars ceremony on Good Morning America, “Can’t we all use a post-pandemic getaway, my friend? I believe that the time is truly perfect, and I’ll tell you and reveal this to you at GMA right now: work is in progress on the Girls Trip 2 sequel.”

“We are absolutely in the stages, the ladies are in, I just talked to the director,” he said.

Packer clarified, “Girls vacation 2 is in way, and the only thing left to decide is what kind of vacation to take. What should we do with all of our favorite crazy females after the pandemic? That’s what we need to ascertain.”

Haddish first disclosed in March 2020 that she and her “Flossy Posse” co-stars had gotten together over Zoom to discuss possible ideas for a Girls Trip follow-up. Prior to that, during an appearance on People Now in May 2019, Latifah declared her interest in a follow-up film, saying, “Everyone’s in, Everyone’s down for No. 2… so we’re just waiting for a script.”

This time, the friend group could go where she had ideas (the last trip was planned to take place in New Orleans). “I have been hurling Rio [de Janeiro] since the start. Regarding taking their shenanigans abroad, Latifah declared, “I’m definitely down with South Africa too.”
