In the new film, Smith sings “Friend Like Me,” an Alan Menken and Howard Ashman ballad. Aladdin’s new soundtrack contains that version of “Friend Like Me” and a Khaled-led “End Title.”

Smith said in a press release that he intended to tweak the song when he first went into the studio to record the Khaled-featuring version of “Friend Like Me.” After 30 minutes in the studio, the song and 94/96 BPM were played. Old school hip hop has that BPM range.

I then placed the breakbeat under The Honey Drippers’ “Impeach Your President”. I tried that. I also tried “I Know You Got Soul” by Erik B. & Rakim under “Friend Like Me.” Thinking, “Oh my god, I’m home.” I experimented with hip-hop, and the Genie came from the music.

Khaled released his anticipated new album, “Father of Asahd,” last week.
