DUBAI: Some of the biggest athletes in the world have come to Dubai to watch events in 2020 as the city gets ready to celebrate the New Year with a variety of cultural and entertainment offerings.
Cristiano Ronaldo, a player for Juventus and Portugal, is presently vacationing in the emirate with his family. The Serie A Player of the Year for 2019 shared a photo of himself and his family on a Dubai beach with Santa Claus on Instagram.
While on vacation in Dubai, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic—who is rated No. 2 in the world and has won 16 grand slam singles titles—met Ronaldo for a workout in the city.
The workout has generated a lot of interest from followers worldwide on Instagram and Twitter.
Ronaldo has visited Dubai frequently in the past, and he and his family celebrated the New Year’s Eve there last year.
He shared a photo of his meeting with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai. Along with the family snapshot, he also shared a video of his helicopter ride above the city and a picture of the Burj Al-Arab’s New Year’s fireworks.
Two other famous football players, Dani Carvajal and Karim Benzema, are in Dubai for the New Year’s festivities with Real Madrid.
Images from their trip to Dubai that were shared on Instagram had Carvajal and his companion posing in front of the Burj Al-Arab and Benzema riding a jet ski with the Dubai cityscape in the background.
According to Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index (GDCI) 2019, Dubai is the fourth most visited city in the world. Many people also rank it among the top places to go for a New Year’s Eve vacation.
