Friday (March 1) marked Rihanna’s return to the stage at a pre-wedding concert for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Jamnagar, India.

At a lavish soiree that was part of a multi-day celebration for the soon-to-be-weds, who will formally exchange vows in Mumbai on July 12, the singer and Fenty mogul performed. The AP reports that Rihanna, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Sunder Picha, Ivanka Trump, and Bollywood celebrity Shah Rukh Khan were among the roughly 1,200 guests.

Ambani is the progeny of Nita Ambani, the progenitor of the Reliance Foundation, and Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries and a multibillionaire. Shaila Merchant, an entrepreneur, and Viren Merchant, the CEO of Encore Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., are both parents of Merchant.

“The performance was exceptional,” Rihanna was overheard saying on camera as paparazzi accosted her after the concert. “I have not performed in a live production for the past eight years.”

Despite appearing at the Oscars and the Suρer Bowl halftime performance the year prior, Rihanna has not conducted a full-length concert since her Anti World Tour in 2016. 19 songs were reportedly included on the set list for Friday night.

Wedding celebrations by the Ambani dynasty are notoriously extravagant. Isha, the daughter of Mukesh, was wed in 2018, and Beyoncé performed at the ceremony. Akash, the eldest son of the business magnate, was married in 2019, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin and the Chainsmokers were engaged for the wedding.
