Lil Wayne is still going strong in the music industry twenty years later. He has already made a name for himself as one of the most significant characters in the genre’s history and continues to turn in standout performances. He commanded the stage last year when he and Nas collaborated on a brand-new song off Magic 3. Welcome 2 Collegrove, his latest album released in collaboration with 2 Chainz, was released by him last year. It was the eagerly anticipated lead song from their 2016 unofficial crossover album, COLLEGROVE.
Wayne is officially old enough now, two full decades into his career, for his son to be experimenting with music of his own. He just gave fans a sneak peek at some new music he’s been working on via Instagram Live. That’s obviously very different from the music his father creates. With its pitched-up vocals and lo-fi arrangement, the song has drawn comparisons to musicians such as Yeat and Playboi Carti from fans. Some even liken his sound to that of hyperpop performers such as 100 Gecs. Some of the more seasoned fans in the comments aren’t feeling the new sound, as one might imagine. One of the most popular comments is, “Geometry dash ass music.” Jokes about the “Sonic the Hedgehog soundtrack” are also made. View the sneak peek he provided below.
