LaTanya Young, the eldest child of music mogul Dr. Dre, has disclosed that, despite her cries for assistance, she and her four children are homeless and have not received a penny from her billionaire father in eighteen months. 

The 38-year-old exclusively told the UK’s Daily Mail, “I have friends and family that will let us come back and forth but the majority of the time I’m living out of my car.” 

The rapper, producer, and music entrepreneur’s estimated net worth as of this year is $820 million. In the meanwhile, Young works as an assembler at a warehouse and a delivery driver for DoorDash and Uber Eats, but she claims that these insecure jobs are insufficient to pay the rent in California, where the average monthly rent for a two-bedroom apartment is almost 55% more than the national average. 

Young’s four children are staying with friends, so she has been living out of a rented SUV. “I only paid for one week of the three-week lease on this SUV, which is valued at $2,300. They’re going to take the automobile eventually, she said.

Young claims that she hasn’t seen her opulent father in eighteen years and doesn’t even have his cell phone number. Her mother separated from Dr. Dre when she was just five years old. She claims that ever since she was a young child, his crew has been the intermediary in all of their communications. 

In addition, Young said that although her father had previously assisted her by covering her rent and giving her an allowance, that support ceased in January 2020 as a result of her newspaper interviews. “My dad doesn’t want to help me because I’ve spoken about him in the press, according to his lawyer,” she claimed. “I feel as though my options are limited—either I do it or I don’t.” Her situation worsened when, last month, she was forced to relocate from Nevada to California in order to find employment—a process that has proven to be very challenging for her. 

Following the release of the information, Dr. Dre has been the talk of social media, and properly so, with many people posing the obvious issue of why a guy with a net worth of over $800 million would abandon his child and young grandchildren.

Among the handful endorsing Dr. Dre, sports analyst Shannon Sharpe has undoubtedly made the most noise. He tweeted about the matter, saying, “A 38-year-old grown woman trying to shame her father into taking care of responsibilities she created.” “My kid chooses me last, not first.” Even if this is a harsh statement coming from any parent, it begs the question, “Where are the generations” in this equation, given all the false beliefs that Black capitalism creates wealth for future generations? Despite his injured sentiments, how is it possible for a guy with Dre’s wealth and resources to so readily abandon his child and grandchildren?

It appears that Dr. Dre has more than enough money to support his daughter and grandchildren, even though, as some have pointed out, he is responsible for other significant financial obligations (he was ordered to pay his ex-wife Nicole Young nearly $300,000 a month in spousal support back in July). He is just choosing not to.
