The Township Auditorium in Columbia will host legendary rapper Lil Wayne on April 23, the music venue announced via Twitter.
The “Welcome to the Carter” tour will bring Wayne back to Columbia, where his previous appearance was canceled in 2017 due to a security dispute that also landed him in court. On January 31, he initially announced the tour dates via Instagram.
A prolific artist who has received numerous accolades and nominations, he has significantly influenced the genre throughout his career spanning over two decades. His diverse and multi-album discography comprises well-received singles, songs with a remarkable knack for lyricism, and artfully moving compositions that explore his personal struggles with viоlence, family, and love.
Lil Wayne received the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy and Black Music Collective on February 3 of this year.
Even though the artist threatened retirement in 2018, they have continued to produce high-charting music. His tour is named after a series of albums titled “Tha Carter,” with “Tha Carter V,” his most recent offering, featuring Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and Post Malone as special guests.
In 2017, Lil Wayne was scheduled to perform at Colonial Life Arena alongside other artists. However, he canceled the concert after leaving the venue and declining to pass through security. The refunds were paid.
Wayne, who has contended with epilepsy, fought frequent legal battles, and founded his own record label, has even been granted a presidential pardon by President Dоnald Trump.
Evidently, Lil Wayne is a household nаme in the Township, where he performs alongside legendary acts such as Bob Dylan, Old Crow Medicine, The Temptations, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Steve Martin and Martin Short, both of whom have previously performed at the venue, will be preceded by him upon their return on October 14.
