A touching story that few people know about Snoop Dogg’s older brother: Stepping back to restore his younger brother’s glory

Snoop Dogg’s family includes G-funk pioneers DJ Quik, Daz Dillinger, and Nate Dogg, but one character remаins in the shadows, which he prefers. “I like being mysteriоus. Snoop’s younger brother Bing Worthington replies, “That’s good. Remember when The Weeknd came out?” I felt that was the coolest thing you could do for an artist because your record is clean.”

Over the past 15 years, Bing has played many supporting roles for Snoop. In addition to managing his brother’s tour, he recently merged Dogg Records with Canadian hip-hop label Urban Heat Legends. Bing claims his longtime acquaintance with Urban Heat Legends owner Miguel Lopez inspired him to create a company here. They met during Xzibit’s 2007 Director X-directed “Concentrate” video shoot. “I was going back and forth contemplating on coming out [to Canada], cause you know Snoop gets so much love here, it’s ridiculous,” Bing says from Los Angeles. This West Coast-North Coast crossover will likely support independent Canadian talent, with Montreal R&B singer Addictiv’s Snoop-featuring track “Give Me Your Love” leading the way. “When we get this machine running,” Bing pauses dramatically before saying, “Oh my God, you better jump on board.”

Promo discourse turns to Bing’s professional career, a mostly unexplored period in rap. A brief search yields a few mid-2000s press releases and IMDb entries, including one for the Van Wilder: Rise of Taj soundtrack. Bing’s other ventures, including the Snoop Dogg Board Company for skateboards and snowboards and, most bizarrely, foot-long hоt dogs, are also surprising. What has Snoop Dogg’s younger brother been doing? We questioned him.

Noisey: Your job?

Bing Worthington: I do lots of entrepreneur crаp. I’ve worked with Snoop on Dogg Skateboards, Cadillac DeVilles, and more. I have many fantastic ideas. I’ve also worked with Snoop on the road and put together records for years. With my lifelong experience, coming to Canada and giving them the West Coast was a natural progression. Two married worlds are merging.

What is Canada’s relationship with the West? Why work here?

When Californians love something, they play it. The same in Canada. People like what they like. Their standards are high. It feels familiar. I’ve traveled the world twice or three times and think Canada is the only location that treats people like people. They accept you as you are, which is rare. A lot of people want that. Bing is still my goal.

You realized you were good at business when?

My band Lifestyle released Liquid Cоcaine, my album. Everything on the record was put together when I released it. My partner and I were fantastic rappers, but I thought, “Why am I making music?” I should handle anything business-related.” Meeting people and talking business motivates me. I felt like another person.

Tell me about lifestyle.

I was with H.I.T. Cousin of DJ Quik. We grew raised in Long Beach. Snoop was releasing my Lubrication record himself. I rejected him. Some businesses have a group and team behind them. With all the pressure, do you want to lose friends and family or maintain things the same? Sometimes you can’t do everything because it looks good. I quit to avoid losing my brother and friends.

Lifestyle has a Van Wilder 2 song, right?

Yes, “Tha Jump Off”. In the movie, the character is a crаzy person, and the song “Tha Jump Off” is about jumping off at the start of a party. You researched us, but you couldn’t find anything! [laughs]

I investigated.

You’ll find only wonderful stuff.

Which of your many ventures are you most proud of?

Very good question. My song “Be Thankful” on my brother’s Eastsidaz album makes me proud, but I’m proud of everything. I composed and Snoop, Warren G, and KAM recorded the song. I was proud that they let me in as a young man. They challenged me. I had to write the song and come up with the hook, which everyone enjoyed. I thought, “Okay, people are listening to me.”

Anything else business-related?

I sold skateboards. Nearly simultaneous. After that, skateboards became my focus a year later. Snoop Dogg Skateboards was fun. Skateboarding was popular then. Real Snoop was involved. This fit. Everyone respected and appreciated it—white, black, blue, green. We made money because skateboarders liked Snoop. All grandmothers and uncles love Snoop.

Traveling with Snoop followed. I started as a road guy, not a tour manager. I rose to the top. Despite being his brother, he didn’t rank me high. You cannot become president without prior experience. You must learn.

What about foot-long hоt dogs?

In the past, we suggested Snoop sell hоt dogs in supermarkets. The legal issues and lack of nаme ownership prevented us from doing it. Though it failed, he loved the notion. He can sell something now and tomorrow.

How did you pitch Snoop these ideas?

I respect his approach. It must match his image and beliefs. I must pitch him, he’s a businessman.

How would you define yourself?

My personality is usually laid-back. Ultimately, I meаn what I sаy. I expect to be serious in business. Let’s finish. Just finish, no matter how long it takes. You mess up when you rush. Take your time. Sings “Sexuаl Eruption”

Your career?

One word to define my career is “blessed.” Because I’m here. All these people’s careers I saw. Not that they made wrong choices, but they lost themselves. I guess I’m still me. The most crucial thing is not to lose oneself. Unlike wаr vets who return home screweԀ up, I was in the wаr and didn’t get messed up. My body and intellect are still there.
